Volkswagen Launches Upgraded ID.3: A New Era of Electric Compact Cars

Volkswagen is ushering in a new era for its electric compact class with the launch of the upgraded ID.3. The next generation of software and infotainment, an improved operating concept, an enhanced augmented reality head-up display, a brand new Wellness App, and an optional premium sound system from Harman Kardon are among the extensive upgrades.

The ID.3 Pro S model, now open for pre-sales, boasts an output increase to up to 170 kW, thanks to the improved drivetrain that comes with a 77 kWh lithium-ion battery, with more variants to be available soon.



Infotainment and AI Integration

 

The ID.3 product line introduces a fresh design in its cockpit landscape. It’s equipped with an advanced infotainment system that boasts a larger touchscreen and a revamped, user-friendly menu layout. The multifunction steering wheel has been upgraded to offer a more straightforward and intuitive user experience. Additionally, the driving mode selector has been reimagined as an independent switch on the steering column.

The new IDA voice assistant, which is integration of AI through ChatPGT, is operable with natural language. It enables control of numerous vehicle functions and can answer questions by accessing online databases such as Wikipedia. 

 


Motor Efficiency and Charging


The ID.3 has an enhanced version of the previous electric motor, impressing with more power and economical consumption. In the German market, the ID.3 Pro S now delivers 170 kW as standard. Customers in other markets can decide after purchase whether they want to increase the basic output from 150 kW to 170 kW via function-on-demand. 

During travel, a cutting-edge charging and thermal management feature pre-conditions the battery for the subsequent DC charging session. This ensures that the ID.3 Pro S receives power as swiftly as possible during extended journeys. The battery is warmed to the ideal temperature, enabling it to charge at a peak output of up to 175 kW.

 


Assistants and Systems and Features


The ID.3 Pro S already has a wide range of modern assist systems on board. These include Adaptive Cruise Control ACC, Autonomous Emergency Braking (Front Assist) with pedestrian and cyclist monitoring, lane keeping system Lane Assist, oncoming vehicle braking when turning function and Dynamic Road Sign Display.

The Wellness App is a new feature, developed for increased well-being while driving or during breaks. In the ID.3 Pro S, the app uses features such as background lighting, sound and air conditioning for this.

Adding another feather to its cap, the ID.3 Pro S now includes an optional 480-watt sound system, courtesy of audio specialist Harman Kardon. This 12-channel sound system comes with four preset sound settings: Pure for a neutral studio sound, Relax for easy listening, Speech for a focus on spoken words, and Vibrant for a dynamic live sound. Additionally, the system features an equalizer that allows users to customize the sound to their personal preference.
